Los Roques - Venezuela

Los Roques is an aggregation of islands in Venezuela. It’s a place that receives a lot of tourists, known for its beautiful clear water beaches. There are approximately 42 islands, but to get there you need to register yourself and pay an entrance tax. The restricted access is due to Los Roques being a Nacional Park, a protected area created to preserve the Venezuela's environment. You can get there by boat or by plane that departs daily from Caracas, Porlamar and Maracaibo.
The hotels and good restaurants are all in the main island, Gran Roque, because most have just sand, sea and nature. Even in the main island, there’s not much infrastructure. The streets are not paved, but as driving is uncommon, that's no problem. There's no hot water and no variety of transports, but the wonderful beaches are worth it.

Hotel Suggestions:

The hotels in Los Roques are really simple. Sometimes not offering hot water. The best ones, like Villa Caracol, offer wi-fi, a beautiful view of the beach and great rooms. If you are looking for a more simple hotel there's the Posada Lagunita, which offers a lot of nice activities like snorkel and diving.
